How Facebook reads your tags
Minimum size
The minimum allowed image dimension is 200×200 pixels. Images smaller than 600×315 but larger than 200×200 render as a small, square image.
Best display
Facebook recommends images of at least 1200×630 pixels for high resolution devices and at least 600×315 for larger link post images. Keep the ratio close to 1.91:1 to show the full image in Feed without cropping. The file must not exceed 8 MB.
First share
The crawler has to see an image at least once before it can render it, so the first person to share a link will not see a rendered image. og:image:width and og:image:height let it render right away.
Frequently asked questions
Facebook’s crawler has to see an image at least once before it can render it. Setting og:image:width and og:image:height lets it render the image right away.
Facebook caches images based on each image’s URL. To force a re-crawl, pass the page URL through the Sharing Debugger. Once a person or page shares a link and the post has more than 50 interactions (comments, likes, shares, etc.), the title cannot be changed.
Facebook’s crawler documentation says Open Graph properties need to be listed before the first 1 MB of your page, or they will be cut off.
